I beat last week’s record. I’ve actually completed all of my planned workouts, on the day they were originally scheduled, for two days in a row. This could be a trend… I certainly hope so.
Today’s plan called for a strength training session in the morning and a swim tonight. My current living conditions offer a couple of big benefits, although they don’t outweigh the time away from the family. The first plus is immediate proximity to both a pool and a gym. The gym is 30 seconds from my front door, and the pool is a whopping one minute walk. That means I can come home at lunch for my gym workouts… which equates to an extra 30 minutes of sleep in the morning, and I don’t have to do strength training at 5:30 a.m. I switched up my strength routine a bit today, and added in dips. I used to do dips a while back, and found them very effective. When we moved our office, though, I was too far away from the gym to make it at lunch. As a result, I dropped them from my routine. Despite doing 3 sets of 30 pushups 3 times a week, I was still unprepared for the shock to my shoulders and chest from the dips. Needless to say, that didn’t help the swim tonight.
My swim was a series of 100 yard repeats, focusing mainly on form. I’m really working on extending my reach, and trying to reduce the number of strokes per lap. My stroke feels much more effective when I’m able to do that consistently, and it is becoming more ingrained with each workout. Once again, I got to do my swim outside, which I enjoy so much more than swimming indoors. I really do need to find a pair of tinted goggles, though.
I’m looking forward to the duathlon this weekend. My wave is supposed to start at 7:18 a.m., so hopefully the temperature and humidity will still be manageable by the finish. I’ve started checking out the bike to make sure it’s ready, and I’ll make a packing list shortly. I haven’t found any good course maps online, which is a little surprising. It’s central Florida, so I know it’s mostly flat. Wish me luck.
